Book Title: Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ
Book Author: Daniel Goleman
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
I decided to read this book after it had been recommended to me by my boss. He has been trying to increase his own "EQ" to improve his performance as a manager and local business owner. I generally don't read a lot of non-fiction, so this book took me a bit longer to read than I had planned. It wasn't that it was a difficult read, but there were some parts that were very information dense. I also felt like some parts got a bit repetitive, and I tended to just put the book down and not pick it up again for a day when this happened. Despite all this, I think the book was easy to read in that the language was approachable. Granted, I do have a strong science background, but I don't think it would be too hard to follow even if you don't have a masters in biology. I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars because above all, I found the topic very interesting and could see myself rereading this book.

Last week, I ordered some spices from my favorite spice shop (Penzy's), and they sent me a sample of their Bangkok Blend seasoning complementary with my order. I was pleasantly surprised as I hadn't requested this particular free sample (I had requested the free sample of their roasted garlic seasoning, which I also received, but I digress). The jar said it was for fish chicken and vegetables, and its ingredients were "ancho chili pepper, garlic, ginger, black pepper, galangal, crushed red pepper, lemon grass, cayenne, paprika, basil, cilantro". Since I had already prepped some chicken thighs for dinner and had planned on serving some kabocha squash as a side, I figured I'd try it on the squash. See the recipe for the squash after the jump.

Despite poor reviews, I went to see Jupiter Ascending this week. As per the usual, the hubs and I waited for cheap night at the local theater to take in the flick. Right off the bat, I have to say that overall, I liked it. I didn't really know what to expect given such poor to mediocre reviews. Half in the bag gave it a bad review, so I didn't have high hopes, as they're usually spot on. While I did agree with many of their criticisms, I'd say it is worth a watch, and unlike them, I would recommend it.

One of my favorite go-to meals for an easy week night dinner is a pizza. Since I haven't been doing gluten these days, my crust of choice is a gluten-free pizza crust made by Udi's. If I'm feeling extra lazy, I'll just buy one of Udi's gluten free margherita pizza's and throw some extra toppings on. See my recipe for the chicken sausage pizza I made this week after the jump.
